Vipoo Srivilasa is a Thai-born Melbourne-based artist, curator and arts activist. He earned a Bachelor of Art (Ceramics) from Rangsit University, Bangkok, Thailand (1994), a Graduate Diploma of Arts in Ceramics at Monash University, Melbourne (1997), and a Master of Fine Art and Design from the University of Tasmania, Hobart (2014).
Working predominantly in porcelain but also creating work on paper, mixed media sculptures, bronze statues and large-scale public art, Vipoo’s work is a playful blend of European historical figurines and Asian decorative art practices, often exploring cross-cultural and migration experiences. He sometimes incorporates food and interactive performance into his ceramic projects, and has been using clay to engage different communities in his creative process for the past 10 years. He has exhibited both internationally including at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Saatchi Gallery, London; Ayala Museum, Philippines; Yingge Ceramics Museum, Taiwan; Nanjing Arts Institute, China and the National Gallery of Thailand. His work is held in national and international collections including the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of South Australia, GOMA, and the Craft Council, UK. He is represented by Edwina Corlette Gallery, Brisbane; Scott Livesey Galleries and Olsen Gallery, both in Sydney; Adrian Sassoon, London; and Subhashok Gallery, Bangkok.
Vipoo was named 2021 Ceramic Artist of the Year by the editorial staff of Ceramics Monthly and Pottery Making Illustrated. He recently co-launched Ceramics for Charity, in partnership with Joshua Collinson of the Ceramics School and curator Wendy Gers.
